Fog lamps are specialized lights mounted low on the front bumper, distinct from standard headlights. They are designed to emit a wide, flat, bar-shaped beam of light that cuts under fog, rain, or snow rather than reflecting off it (which causes glare). They are intended to illuminate the road surface and lane markers directly in front of the vehicle during severe weather. Unlike high beams, which can blind the driver in fog, these use a specific Kelvin temperature and angle to improve contrast. They are usually housed in durable, impact-resistant lenses to withstand road debris.
