The fuel hose is a specialized rubber tubing designed to carry gasoline or diesel from the tank to the engine. Unlike standard rubber hoses, fuel hoses are reinforced with internal braiding to withstand the high pressures of modern fuel injection systems (often 40-60 PSI or higher). They are also chemically treated to resist degradation from fuel additives and ethanol, which eat away at standard rubber. Cracked or brittle hoses are a major safety risk; if a hose bursts, it can spray fuel onto a hot exhaust, causing an immediate fire.
