On vehicles without a single serpentine belt, the alternator belt is a dedicated V-belt or ribbed belt that drives the alternator. It ensures the alternator spins at the correct speed to generate electricity, recharge the battery, and power electrical accessories while the engine runs. If this belt slips or snaps, the battery light will illuminate on the dashboard, and the vehicle will eventually lose all electrical power and stall once the battery charge is depleted. Tension must be maintained correctly to prevent slippage.
