The bonnet lock, or hood latch, is a heavy-duty mechanical clasp mounted to the front crossmember of the vehicle. It secures the hood during driving to prevent wind from blowing it open and obstructing the driver’s view. It features a two-stage safety mechanism: the primary latch controlled by the interior lever, and a secondary safety catch that must be released manually at the front of the car. Because it sits at the front of the vehicle, it is highly susceptible to road grime, salt, and rust, requiring regular lubrication to prevent seizing.
