The silencer mount, also known as an exhaust hanger or rubber insulator, is a thick rubber loop or block that suspends the exhaust system from the vehicle’s chassis. It serves two purposes: holding the heavy exhaust pipes in place and isolating the car body from engine vibrations and noise. Without these flexible mounts, the vibration from the exhaust would rattle the entire car frame. If a mount stretches or breaks, the exhaust pipe may bang against the car body when going over bumps or drag on the ground.
